We have both had a variety of careers in the past, Sarah was initially an accountant post university before working in London on project development and overseas in a variety of teaching roles which is where she met Rupert who had worked in IT after completing an engineering degree.

 

We met in the North East of China where Sarah was teaching Chinese teachers language and methodology and Rupert was teaching undergraduate teacher trainees. Even then we had the dream of one day starting our own business working with cats.

Fast forward a few years and we had settled back to life in Yorkshire. Sarah was KS1 Leader in a primary school; had recently completed her NPQSL and was intending to continue her work, and studies, by completing her masters modules. Rupert was a business analyst in a software development company and had recently completed a series of exams in his area of expertise. Life didn't look set to change path.

However, the dream of one day owning and running our own cattery would not go away and so we finally plucked up the courage and began the search for the perfect cattery for us. We visited catteries from Cornwall to Yorkshire but none were quite right until we visited Irchester. It was a big leap from steady jobs with steady pay to the uncertainty of self-employment but we knew that if we didn't take the chance we would regret it.

We began trading as The Miaow Motel in August 2018, taking over what was previously known as Irchester Cattery. We have already undertaken a lot of work to improve the cattery environment and constantly thrive to ensure we have a solid knowledge base to provide an excellent standard of care.
